A just released video purports to show then-UFC Heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez tearing his ACL in training before his November 2011 loss to Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1.
It's long been reported that former UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was injured before his unsuccessful title defense against Junior dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1 last November. Now a just released video purports to show the injury happening.
Here's MMA Fighting's description of the video:
The way the story goes, MMA filmmaker Bobby Razak was setting up his equipment to film a commercial a few weeks out from FOX 1, while Velasquez busied himself warming up on the mat. Suddenly something tweaked, Velasquez crumbled in a heap, and just like that, footage of Velasquez's knee injury was caught on tape.
The video labels the knee injury as a torn ACL. Obviously, the details are hazy. Only Razak, Velasquez, and those present in the room truly know what happened. Likewise, the timing of this release is curious in and of itself, given that the footage sat around in limbo for over a year.
Dos Santos has also claimed to have been injured going into the fight. Velasquez was coming out of recovery for surgery to repair a 90% tear in his right rotator cuff as well.
The two rematch at UFC 155 on December 29, 2012.
